I love to eat Japanese dishes. Beautiful pictures of the final products.

I'm glad I got this book. It brings back memories of when I used to go over my friends house for the holidays. His parents would serve up these delicious and yet simple meals. Got this book yesterday and made four of the dishes already. The ingredients in this book is easy to find in most Asian markets. The recipes are simple and they taste like I remembered. Thank you Muriel.

Muriel Miura began her career as a home economist with Hawaii's Gas Co. She's hosted her own cooking shows. One of them called Cook Japanese which was aired on Hawaii Public Television in the early '70s.She's also an author of numerous cookbooks. In 1974, as a way to help pay for her daughter's private school tuition, she wrote Cook Japanese: Hawaiian Style which she self-published. This cookbook has become a classic and is now out of print. Thanks to her daughter's encouragement to revise and reprint this cookbook for her children, Muriel Miura's classic is once again available for a whole new generation to enjoy.The cookbook is sectioned into three parts:Part One: Things Japanese. . . My mother gave me this book a year ago when I wanted to make some Japanese food for my girlfriend (non-Asian). I liked it because the recipes were easy to follow, worked well, and had Japanese flavor and Hawaii flavor. I also like it as a Japanese-American cookbook, and being Japanese American, I don't see them too often. While it might not be the most "authentic" Japanese food (it's close), it is authentic Japanese Hawaii food and well worth the price.

Great recipes of Japanese Cooking as they do it back Home.... this is a GREAT cook book and I bought it on a recombination by a friend!

As a big fan of Biba ( I own and cook from ALL of her other books) I was disappointed with this one.Most of the recipes are slightly altered versions of recipes from her previous books and those that aren't ( I've tried 3) weren't very good.I also have to wonder if Biba or someone from her staff tested or proof read some of these recipes.For example:Page 56- Oven- Roasted Tomato Sauce calls for 3 1/2 to 4 lbs of fresh tomatoes to be chopped up and tossed with olive oil, oregano, garlic, salt and pepper and "roasted" on a lightly oiled baking sheet for 20 minutes at 300 degrees, until somewhat shriveledNeedless to say, after 20 minutes at 300 degrees, the tomatoes were barely warmed through, let alone shriveled.To save the dish, I ended up sauteing the mixture to reduce the liquid or I would have soup instead of a dressing for pasta.

I must say that I LOVE Biba! We dine at her restaurant a few times a year and her food is amazing! I have all her other cookbooks and she has talk me all the fundamentals of true Italian cooking (like garlic and Parmesan do not go with everything...lol). But when I saw in her newsletter that this book was coming out, I hesitated to buy it, because many of her books overlap, and I figured that I probably had most of the book. But while lunching at the restaurant, I was able to flip through it and I noticed this book is different than the others; it is more geared towards quick meals. Something her other books are definitely Not! Biba flavor without slaving in the kitchen all day? Sold! She even talks about how these are recipes she throws together after a long day, or for her grandkids when they come over (Can I be your grandkid, Biba?). The recipes are simple, with not too many ingredients, and ment to be tossed,with good store bought pasta (please don't ruin the flavors by putting them on crappy super cheap Walmart pasta. If its not made in Italy, that's a bad sign...). There's also a lot of variety, not just twenty versions of ragu.One tip, quality and freshness make all the difference. If you think canned Parmesan is an acceptable ingredient, and good pasta sauce comes in a jar...you have a long way to go! Homemade spaghetti sauce can be done in 10 minutes, and taste amazing!Buy the book, you're family will love you for it!

This was an enjoyable and simple read on spaghetti/pasta sauces without getting all crazy on the gourmet ingredients. Some of the recipes were very simple, but definitely worth reading. I did get it at the low price of ninety-nine cents, which I think was just about right for this title.

This is one of my most fave restaurants in Sacramento. Biba and her recipes are to die for.

Love the food at Biba's restaurant, so I knew this had to be an awesome book! I was not disappointed.

Amazing wonderful recipes....my all around favorite is the oven roasted tomato sauce...beast flavorful and all around recipe....I roast at a higher recipe because I like the charred outside skin.....

I just flipped through this book and I will be making many of the recipes for myself. I am now very hungry for some pasta.
