Reading Jenna Hollenstein’s book, Eat to Love, was not only helpful to reframe my thinking and relationship with food, but was also inspiring. I caught myself reading a few pages, highlighting the majority of the passages and then writing in the margins. There were quotes that I read aloud because they resonated with me in my journey – in the past and where I am today!Hollenstein welcomes you back to yourself in a sense. As someone who had lost over 100 pounds years ago, only to find it again when I stopped all forms of self-care, this book served as a permission slip for me. Permission to reconnect through meditation and being present. Permission to have a different relationship with food that wasn’t anchored in an all-or-nothing mentality. Her insights are not prescriptive but yet, simple to remember. I now find myself checking to see if that last taste was as good as the first. I leave food on my plate. I eat only when I’m hungry, not because I’m “supposed” to.I’ve only begun to scratch the surface of the wealth of information Hollenstein has given us. I know that I will be re-visiting this one to stay grounded and connected with myself and the world around me.

A very insightful book, Eat to Love exposes the poisonous diet culture that pervades our world and offers a saner way of exploring nourishment and our relationship with eating. As a practicing Buddhist, I really appreciated the emphasis on meditation. so much of what Hollenstein offers in the realm of paying attention to my body and what I eat never occurred to me. I am now noticing what I crave, what I am hungry for and the stories I tell myself about food. As a man, I did not find that most of the book is geared towards women off-putting; it’s clear that a lot of it applies to men as well. As a person who knows a few women, I appreciate the insight into just how deeply diet culture takes its toll…on women and, therefore, men as well!

As a person who has struggle with body image and related eating issues my whole life, I find this book invaluable. It is the most helpful, genuine and validating book I have read on the subject. I have highlighted so much that I am going to order another copy to have in my library. It is extremely well written, interesting to read and most of all is helpful. I felt the calming and peaceful vibe throughout. I have so many new awarenesses and as a result of reading Eat to Love and have had changes in my thoughts and behavior. It puts everything in perspective and is sooooo helpful.

When you give yourself permission to do anything, your life changes. This is what this book has done for me.This is very different from other "permission" books. Jenna has a way of writing that takes the truth you really unconsciously know about your self and gently infuses it into your consciousness. I no longer look at food as the enemy. I no longer look to "the experts" to give me advice about MY body. I no longer judge my body as something that must change in order to be happy. I trust myself to tell me what I need. Sounds simplistic, doesn't it? And it is. The new trust I have has overflowed into other areas of my life. And that is the most precious gift that I can ever give myself. The peace I feel is ... well ... startling. Every day is different. Every moment is different in our lives, and I am learning acceptance and non-self-judgment. There is no paranoia if I'm "doing it right", "what will other people say or think", etc. Every paragraph was a jaw-dropping eye-opener for me, and I cannot thank Jenna enough for having the courage and insights to write something so genuine and honest.There is Buddhist influence but it is not a "religious" conversion book. She skillfully incorporates the various tenants of Buddhist philosophy into an education about our bodies and relationship to food.Give yourself this gift of peace, trust and self love. You won't regret it.

I'm not even finished with this book. But I had to give a 5 star review. Recently I've been struggling with modifying my nutrition in a way that felt restrictive to me and I want to change. This book opened my eyes and give me ways to be at peace with trusting the way I feed my body. I eat very healthy, I eat small portions, I know how to fuel my body in the right way; I just need to not be so hard on myself. This book was my answer. I know I will read it over and over and recommend it to women I know.
