James Eatock is an English freelance animator, designer, writer and publisher. He is commonly known on the internet as Busta Toons.In 1997, James alongside Zadoc Angell created the He-Man and She-Ra Episode Review Website. The website was primarily Zadoc's idea and James had little interest in contributing to it during its initial developmental stages. This book is huge, being close to 1.75" thick, containing 590 pages. It is 12.25" H x 9" W in size. It's a heavy book. The binding seems to be strong and hold, but only time will tell if the binding will not be strong enough for continued viewings. This book has summaries and additional information from each episode from Season 1 and 2 from He-Man, and from Season 1 and 2 from She-Ra. See my pictures. There is a short 4-page section at the end of the book, that gives short summaries of episodes that had been approved, but were never made/produced. There are many sketches in pencil and in color, of characters and environments. The end also has a nice 1-page description of Lou Scheimer. The pictures I uploaded show the variety of types of pages included in this book.
In awe of this fantastic book which arrived at my door today. With each turn of the page, I was in utter disbelief at how thorough this book was. How they were able to detail every episode, in regard to storyline, trivia, deleted scene info, quotes, full color photos and storyboards, rough sketches, etc., and on high quality glossy paper to boot...is just amazing. Having been lucky enough to grow up in the 80's, I collected the classic Mattel figures and religiously watched the cartoons every day after school, such a great time in my life. This book just brings it all home.
Dark Horse has been knocking it out of the park with the series of He-Man and She-Ra companion books.James Eatock is well known in fandom as an expert on 80's animation and pop culture. He is the publisher of a fantastic fanzine called Cereal Geek and is an authority on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I was thrilled when I found out he was authoring this book. He has contributed to the other Dark Horse MOTU books.This volume is a complete and total recap of every single episode of the two classic animated series. It has character breakdowns, episode over view, reused animation, trivia and more. Stills from the show, production art, script pages and even examples of the cell animation.If you ARE a fan of the Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power, it's an absolute must. If you WERE a fan and remember the shows from when you were a kid, it's a fantastic glimpse in to your childhood. I promise you'll want to go out and buy the DVDs so you can watch them again.
If you are a He-Man/She-Ra fan you've probably already ordered this book. If you haven't - DO IT. There's no more exhaustive tome that covers everything and brother I mean pretty much everything from these two series. Still reading it, but flipping through it I don't see anything related to Adventures of He-Man, the latter series right before they stopped making episodes for a decade or so. Amazing behind-the scenes artwork, stories about things that wound up on the cutting room floor, and hey...just what DID Orko look like without that hat? Fair warning, do some weight training before it arrives...this sucker is massive!
Overall a tremendous purchase for MOTU fans. In fact, it's very close to being essential. I love the layouts, variety, and commentary. It makes re-watching episodes a treat (because you have the series on disc, right?). My only critique is the amount of space given to the "Same-as" sections, which detail animations that are reused throughout the series. If you're familiar with Flimation, you know this is a common technique they used to save on their production cost. In some cases it's interesting, but it gets redundant quickly. I would have enjoyed more commentary or other episode specific "fun facts." A minor complaint in an otherwise terrific product.

As other reviewers have noted, this is A LOT of book for the price - not only in terms of size, but in terms of the extra content in the form of sketches, animation stills, and a "flip book" animation of He-man racing into action at the bottom of the page! The highlight of the work is its definitive treatment of each episode of He-man and the Masters of the Universe and She-ra Princess of Power. A plot, list of characters, stock animation, and rating accompany each entry. The ratings are especially fun and made me return to episodes I hadn't seen in a long while. My singular (and very minor) criticism would be that entries on the sides of the pages sometimes duplicate information found elsewhere under that episode. All in all, a fun read for anyone who has ever raised their hand aloft and said, "By the power of Grayskull!"
Fantastic Book! I haven't had time to read through it all yet but it is well bound and the artwork and inserts are AMAZING!! If you are a fan of the original Filmation Animation this is a must have, especially if you get it at the discounted price. Could not be happier!
